FEATURED PROJECT: How to make a scrapbook inspired frame!
|
You can make this amazing scrapbook inspired frame in a short amount of time and without spending a ton of money!
Here's what you'll need: * Wood or Particle board frame (about $5 at Michaels Arts & Crafts Stores, www.michaels.com) * Elmer's Glue, or Modge Podge * Foam Brush * Scrap Paper - use whatever you already have! * Assorted Embellishments
STEP ONE: Take the glass out of your frame. Make sure you know which side you want to be the "top" and which will be the "bottom" (that way you will save yourself the embarrassment of putting the letters or stickers upside down). It might have happened to me once... I'm just saying...
STEP TWO: Pick out your favorite paper and figure out where you want to lay it on the frame (don't worry about cutting the paper, I will tell you how to get rid of the excess later). Using the foam brush, apply a thin amount of glue or Modge Podge to the frame. Make sure it is thinned a bit because otherwise your paper will bubble. I know a few dabblers who like to gently spritz the paper with some water first before they apply it to ensure the smoothness.
STEP THREE Using a sanding block (you can get these at home depot for about $3 each and they can be used to distress any of your scrapbooking paper projects, so they are worth having on hand), sand the excess paper off the frame. This technique works the best with scrapbook paper because it is relatively thin. If you are using some type of hand made paper, you may want to use an X-ACTO knife to cut the excess paper from around the frame.
STEP FOUR: Decorate your frame with fun 3-D stickers, or ribbon, or pewter embellishments. If you're not having fun by now, your not dabbling right!
That's it! Put the glass and the backing back on the frame and enjoy!!
Here is a sample from our "She's Crafty" DABBLE Class where we used this technique.
